About Collyn

Collyn Rowley Brown, MS TCM, LAc, Dipl OM, PTA, is a nationally board-certified and state licensed Acupuncturist. She was trained in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), Acupuncture, Herbal Medicine and complementary modalities, at one of the nation’s longest standing TCM academies – the Colorado School of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Denver, CO.

Collyn graduated with honors and holds the combination of a Diplomat in Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine, and a Master’s of Science. The program comprised of more than 2,850 hours, 154 credits (equivalent to over 4 academic years) of instruction in Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine as well as western medical studies. Her inner-city clinical internship included over 1000 hrs of supervised patient care, during which she completed over 400 treatments.

Collyn uses Acupuncture, Herbal Medicine, Bodywork and nutritional guidance to treat the full spectrum of internal health concerns. Her scope of practice includes, but is not limited to treating; all pain conditions, addictions, mental and emotional dis-harmonies, male and female reproductive health issues, as well as pediatric conditions.

Her approach to patient care incorporates a gentle Japanese Acupuncture technique partnered with an in-depth Korean Pulse Diagnosis. Both techniques have an acute focus on the root of each patient’s health concerns. In addition, Collyn has had extensive training in the theory and application of Chinese Herbal Medicine; and tailors a formula for each of her clients. Working with both Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine in tandem, has proven a great source of clinical satisfaction for both Collyn and her clientele.

Before her career in Oriental Medicine, Collyn pursued a degree as a Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA).  Immediately after graduating she began out-patient clinical care under the tutelage of Jay B. Kain PhD, PT, ATC, IMPC, a world renown teacher and healer. She then went on to practicing Physical Therapy in the inner-city hospital acute-care, long-term rehabilitation, and nursing home settings.  Being able to integrate her knowledge of the healing process from both the western and eastern perspectives, allows Collyn to now offer a cutting edge approach to patient care.

A fifth generation Vermonter, Collyn began her health-care career as a National Ski Patroller at Jay Peak, VT. This experience, along with her training as a Wilderness First Responder, has taught her how to manage injuries from the start; as well as many tricks of the trade. Also, Collyn now works to incorporate the ancient teachings of TCM on how to adapt to the elements of nature, so that her clients can enjoy optimal health throughout the four-season weather here in Vermont.

Central to the art of Traditional Chinese Medicine, is the awareness of the breath and the capacity to calm the mind. Collyn is a graduate of the Suluk Academy located in upstate NY, a four-year progressive course of study in meditation, and breath-work. She is also an ordained Healing Conductor in the Sufi Healing Order, and is a level two Reiki practitioner. While completing her Studies in TCM, Collyn taught a monthly meditation class in Denver, CO; and continues to offer classes that are free and open to the public.
